ETWALL EAGLES SWIMMING CLUB
The weekend started
with Briggs and Smith running through Cardiff for their 1500m Freestyle race
after getting on the wrong bus, when arriving 5 minutues after the start time to
find out they were in heat 5 and only swimming one per
lane.
The evening session
was more interesting with Ruth Lowe getting Etwall Eagles 1st medal with Silver
in the 100 back and setting a new East Midlands record.
Saturday mornings session started with the 400 free with
Linsdey Gowland doing her decathlon points some good with her 400m free for the
year. The 200 back was a good event for the Club with Holland and Lowe picking
up silver medals. Julie Gibson had a fine swim in the 100 fly to gain Etwalls
1st GOLD of the weekend. At the end of the session the mixed 160+ relay team
(Holland, Gowland, Lowe and Miller) got off to great start with Holland setting
a new East Midlands record for 50 free in 25.99 seconds followed by the girls
that set up Miller to go for the last leg finishing with 1.59.11 but just
missing out of the medals in 4th place.
Saturday afternoons
session started with the 200IM with Holland getting a credible 2nd place and
Lowe 3rd place. Then came Etwalls 2nd GOLD of the competition by way
of a 50 free with Lindsey Gowland in a time of 30.23 The Burge finished the
session off with a great 200m fly in a good time of
3.32.05.
The final session of
the day was excellent for Holland who did an amazing 24 second PB and creating
another East Midlands record in the 800m Free with 9.24.17 which gained him his
3rd silver of the day.
The final day started
with the toughest event of the programme, the 400IM and Holland finally got his
GOLD in a PB time of 5.06.56. Not to be out done, Lowe was next in and got her
Silver and a new East Midlands record time. Then came the big surprise of the
weekend LINDSEY GOWLAND GETS GOLD IN 100M FREE SETTING A NEW BRITISH RECORD OF
1.07.05.
The final session saw
Kath Tunnicliffe get Etwalls 4th gold of the weekend in the 50m back and yet
another new East Midlands record of 39.88 seconds to add to her 100m free
