ETWALL EAGLES SWIMMING CLUB
Etwall's sole representative in the longest distance was veteran 5K specialist* Clive Smith, (* a 34th place age group finish at the Europeans is good enough for me)! Smith completed the five laps untroubled keeping a good solid arm stroke throughout to finish in 11th place taking 7 points towards the British Grand Prix series.
The 3K had Steve C, Ruth, Helen, and Janet all competing. Despite a quick flick through the excuse book season campaigner Steve C could not find a suitable excuse for his defeat by Ruth who was making her Open Water debut! Ruth swam consistently through the three laps to finish as top lady in the 50-59 age group, Steve looked strong to finish first in the 30-34 age band.
Captain Briggs successfully navigated the buoys to finish in fourth place in the 40-49 age group whilst Helen collected unwanted company in the form of half a dead fish during the swim - the pair crossed the line together in joint first for the 30-34 yrs group (although exact age of fish has yet to be confirmed).
The 1500m event saw Mark Bracey make his competitive swimming debut (a candidate for most unusual debut of the year) Mark swam well to finish in second place in the 40-49 age band, hopefully well see more of Mark throughout the Autumn meets.
Richard Milner again completed the course swimming mainly Breaststroke to clock up more Breaststroke metreage than some Etwall Breaststroker manage in a year!! Well done to Richard for his first place in the 60+ age group.
