News October/November 2008 ...

Phoebe Williams

On 22nd November Phoebe swam for the Midlands team in the ISA Nationals at Coventry 50m pool after qualifying in the Regionals at Walsall against 22 other independent schools, where she came 1st in frontcrawl and 1st in breaststroke.  She was awarded best performance for year 5 at the regionals which was awarded to her at the nationals in the form of a shield.  At the Nationals, she won gold for the Year 5 girl's freestyle relay and came 4th in both frontcrawl and breastroke individual events.  The Midlands team (both the girls and the boys) won the Nationals, (out of 7 national teams) which was a fantastic achievement.

South Derbyshire Sport Awards 2008

At a recently held awards ceremony hosted by South Derbyshire Sport members of our Swimming Club scooped four top prizes out of four nominations.  Warmest congratulations go to :-

Junior Sports Personality: Christopher Steeples

Sports Personality: Julie Gibson

Veteran Sports Personality: Ruth Lowe

Team of the Year: The Masters Squad.

Special mention must also be made of Sam Sadler who was awarded a grant for his efforts in the Triathlon.

Congratulations also goes to Sam Sadler and James Whitfield who both qualified to represent the East Midlands at the British Triathlon Inter-Regional Championships in Aldershot.  The boys did very well competing at National level finishing 9th and 16th respectively.

Lincoln Vulcans Level 1 Open Meet 18th October 2008

This competition was held in the 50m pool at Ponds Forge Sheffield on Saturday last.  The club had two representatives at the meet and both performed very well.

Harry Rowe, who was competing in the 12year Boys Age Group, swam several personal best times, set 3 new club records on the day and won a boxed medal for 3rd position in the 100m Fly.  His full results were as follows:-

100m Back  1.17.40  6th

200m Back  2.41.89  10th

200m Free  2.29.45  11th  New Club Record

200m IM  2.51.86  12th  New Club Record

50m   Free  31.55 9th

100m Free  1.09.31  7th

100m Fly  1.18.99  3rd  New Club Record

Kathryn Roworth, who was completing in the 10year Girls Age Group, achieved 3 personal best times and new club records on the day and won boxed medals for 3rd position in both the 100m Freestyle and 100m Back.  Her full results were as follows:-

100m Back  1.26.23  3rd New Club Record

200m Back  3.03.41  5th New Club Record

100m Free  1.18.46  3rd New Club Record

ASA National County Team Championships (25m) on Sunday 19th October 2008

This annual event was held at Ponds Forge and this year we are pleased to announce that two of our male swimmers were selected to swim for Derbyshire.

Swimming in the Division 1 competition Derbyshire finished in 11th position overall, Lancashire taking the top slot closely followed by Northumberland and Durham with Middlesex in 3rd.

Christian Barcz swam in the 14/15year Boys Individual 100m Fly recording a massive PB and new Etwall Eagles Club record in a time of 1.00.25 (Definitely something to do with those new fastskin legs).  He came 7th. 

Christopher Steeples also set a new club record in the 16/17year Boys Individual 100m Breaststroke with a 1.06.44 swim, finishing in 4th place.

Both boys also competed in various relay events on the day and should be proud of their achievements.
