ETWALL EAGLES SWIMMING CLUB

Midland Championships – Leamington Spa, April 2008

Three days packed with medals, records, pb’s, and lost pants! Add in a first competitive swim after nearly three decades and a double winning debut it was quite a weekend.

Forty Seven medals including twenty two gold came back to South Derbyshire (one via Bolton!). Needless to say this easily beats the previous best total from 2007.

An incredible six Midland titles went to Ruth (see honours board for full details), Dave an impressive four (he was that good according to the official results on the day he finished first and second in the 200m Backstroke), Chris ‘anyone seen my pants’ Burge three, Debutant Kirstie Donaldson stormed to two victories, Helen enjoyed a leisurely two, Jaq ‘sprint queen’ Graham and Garry ‘the Bolton Bullet’ enjoying one apiece. (please note Garry did finish last in the 400 IM – but was “proud to finish”)!

Team Manager Smith organised a record number of relay teams, all of whom performed well. Three gold’s nicely shared by the Men’s, Ladies & Mixed teams were followed by eight club best times and three East Midland records.

Steve C took the opportunity to tick off another DQ from the list, choosing the old one hand trick to add to the ever increasing paragraphs of disqualification coding after his name!
