Policies
Below are just a few of the rules and policies governing Etwall Eagles Swimming
Club. Please read and adhere to them in the best interest of all members of the
club. Below you can read or download all our policies.
TRAINING:
Swimmers should:
- attend as many sessions as possible taking into account the guidelines from the
coach.
- arrive in good time for sessions with all necessary equipment
- be attentive and co-operative with all the coaches instructions. Do not talk, interrupt
or distract when the coach is talking. You must allow other swimmers to fully participate
and enjoy the training session
- always go to the toilet before you start swimming so that you will not need it during
the session. If you really have to go, go between sets, not halfway through one.
- bring a non-fizzy drink to training to keep you well hydrated and improve performance
- be well behaved in the changing rooms, respecting other swimmers and their property.
- be respectful and courteous to coaches, teachers, Club Officials, parents, other
swimmers and in particular, any members of the public who may be using the facilities.
POOLSIDE BEHAVIOUR:
It is important that swimmers behave responsibly when training. This allows everyone
to enjoy the sessions and get full benefit from them. Swimmers should:
- arrive in good time for sessions with all necessary equipment
- be attentive and co-operative with all the coaches instructions. Do not talk, interrupt
or distract when the coach is talking.
- always go to the toilet before swimming starts.
- be well behaved in the changing rooms, respecting other swimmers and their property
- be respectful and courteous to other swimmers, coaches, teachers, Club Officials,
parents, and in particular, any members of the public who may be using the facilities
If it is felt that a swimmer is not behaving in an appropriate manner, the coach
will follow the following procedure:
- give a verbal warning to the swimmer and notify their parents
- if the problem continues a meeting will be arranged between the swimmer, their parents,
the coach and the chair
- if the problem still continues the coach will have the option of suspending the
swimmer for 1 week. On the return of that swimmer, a parent will be asked to attend
for the first week.
COACHES and TEACHERS:
The coach has absolute discretion on matters of discipline and swimmers proving
to be disruptive may be asked to leave the pool and remain on poolside until the
session ends. The coach also has the discretion to ban a disruptive swimmer from
subsequent sessions. The coach should:
- start sessions on time
- respect the dignity and worth of all members and must treat everyone equally within
the context of their activity within the Club
- be concerned primarily with the well-being, health and future of any individual
swimmer. The relationship between Coach and swimmer should remain respectful and
based on mutual trust.
- ensure they establish what is confidential information from the swimmer or parent/guardian
before discussing it with any third party
- at all times conduct themselves with a high level of personal standards that not
only reflect on the Club but also the sport
- confine themselves to practice in those areas of the sport in which they are deemed
competent. They should refer problems beyond their knowledge to the appropriate
agencies
- stay abreast of the latest techniques and to continue to seek to improve their technical
and professional skills
- be aware of and adhere to the ASA Code of Ethics and ASA Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures
PARENTS or GUARDIANS CONDUCT:
Parents and guardians should:
- think about becoming involved either as an event organiser, committee member or
as an official.
- ensure, wherever practicable, that swimmers arrive in good time for their sessions.
If late, an explanation to the Coach or Teacher will save the embarrassment of the
swimmer
- if you do not wish to stay for the session, ensure before leaving that the coach
is in attendance and the scheduled session is to take place
- remain on the premises if your swimmers are under the age of 8 years
- arrive in time to collect your children at the end of the session
- read the planned competition calendar which will, as far as possible, be published
at the start of each year
- encourage the swimmers to wear Club attire if representing the Club
- ensure at least one adult accompanies the swimmer to galas. If this is not the swimmers
parent or guardian, to ensure that another adult has been given specific responsibility
for that swimmer, that that adult is aware of any medical requirements of the swimmer
and that the team manager is aware of who has responsibility for that child
- confine discussions with their children to encouragement. The Coaches will advise
on the ways to perform
- remain positive about their swimmers performances and be encouraged to discuss concerns
with the Coach or Teacher when they are not instructing. If you wish to discuss
your child with the coach you should make an appointment to do so at a time convenient
to both parties
- be respectful and courteous to coaches, teachers, Club Officials and other members
at all times
- appreciate the efforts put in by all swimmers during training and at Gala performances
- ensure the good behaviour of all attendees within their charge at venues used by
the Club
- endeavour wherever possible to support and help or suggest ways to improve the running
of the Club
