The Etwall swimmers, who train and compete under the Derventio eXcel (DX) banner, did the club proud at the close of the swimming season, high level meets. As in the June newsletter, it was reported that the following swimmers had qualified for events:

‘Adam Banks (British Championships: 800m Free & 1500m Free, Swim England Open Water Festival: 3K)

Mya Watt (British Championships: 1500m Free; Swim England Summer Meet: 800m Free, 100m Breast, 200m Breast & 400m IM)

Mia Slevin (British Championships: (British Championships: 100m Free, 200m Free, 400m Free, 1500m Free, 50m Back, 100m Back & 200 Back; Swim England Summer Meet: 50m Free)

Charlotte Hall (British Championships: 400m Free, 800m Free & 1500m Free; Swim England Summer Meet: 50m Free, 100m Free, 200m Free & 400m IM)’

Due to the level of these competitions, their coaches decided that some of the swimmers would not compete in all the events they qualified for, due to the busy schedule of the meet.

Well, how did they all did all do?

From the British Summer Championships, we have a National Age Group Champion and Gold Medal winner - Mia Slevin in the 200m Free (15 years age group), also getting a life time best time. Mia also made the finals in the 100m Free, 400m Free and gaining a PB, 50m Back, 100m Back and coming third and winning a Bronze medal in the 200m Back.

From the Swim England Summer Meet, we have a Gold Medal Winner in Toby Arnold in the 200m Breast (17 years), achieving over a 2 second PB in the final. In the British Championships Toby also gained PB’s in both his 50m &100m Breaststroke events, in the 17/18 years age group.

Also from the Swim England Summer Meet, Charlotte Hall won Silver in the 200m Free and Silver in the 100m Free (16 years age group) both in a lifetime best times. She also swam in the 50m Free. In the British Championships, Charlotte swam the 400m and 800m Free events, in the same 16 years age group.

Both Toby and Charlotte want congratulating, as they have had a tough year, due to GCSE exams and also that Charlotte was injured in the last few months of the season. To achieve what they both have this season is amazing.

Mia. Mya and Charlotte also competed with another DX team member from Derventio eXcel in the 4 x 200m Free 14/16 years relay, at the British Championships and came 6th in the final.

Adam Banks gained valuable experience competing at the British Championships, competing for the first time in the 800m and 1500m free events in the 15 years age group and also competed in the 3K Swim England Open Water Festival, in the same age group.

May Watt also competing for the first time at these Championships, swam the 1500m Free in the British Championships and in the Swim England Summer Meet, swam in the 100m and 200m Breast, 800m Free and 400m IM.

To actually qualify for these events is an amazing achievement, for the British Championships it is the top 22 in Britain, except 800m and 1500m Free which is top 18 and in the Swim England Summer Meet it’s the 23-44 placed swimmers in England, except 800m and 1500m Free which is 19-36 placed swimmers.

Well done to all 5 of you, as all your journey’s started at Etwall, so
