The club is continually striving to create and improve it's competitive swimming
To give the children an early taster to competition and to hopefully fuel their enthusiasm we have 3 professionally run "Time Trials" within the first 7 months of the year. These are always heavily attended and we encourage all members from the age of 5 upwards to gain their first ever PB's which will then generate their very own page on the website, which is set up to monitor their progress both graphically and statistically throughout their time at Etwall Eagles.
Following the time trials we have the Club Championships in November each year. These are preceded by the heats (normally in October) from which the fastest 6 children from each event qualify for the finals at the Repton Pool. All awards from these championships together with speed awards and other decorations are presented at the appropriately named "Presentation evening" in December.
Outside of the purely club competitions, we compete in up to a dozen inter-club galas throughout the year together with being represented in numerous "Open Meets" up and down the country throughout the year, the main ones being the County Champs in March and November (short and long course respectively) and the Etwall Eagles Masters Meet, held in November.
Having highlighted all the glamorous elements available, the beauty of this sport, and the one inescapable fact, is that only by attending as many sessions as one can, and by treating every training session as an opportunity to listen, to learn and to stretch yourself to your limits, will you achieve the success to which you are capable.
Any parents reading this please note that your input is essential. The hours' training may be a chance for a coffee, a chat and a break from the stresses of daily life, but your child needs your support. Just watching them from poolside and making the effort to discuss the session with them, to and from the pool, will make a huge difference to their efforts and their subsequent success and enjoyment. Anyone who has any ideas on introducing new ways to enhance the competitive edge of our club should contact Dean or anyone on the committee.
